Teachers' Day Celebrated by MAKAUT, WB in Online Mode on 05.09.2020.

    Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), WB celebrated Teachers' Day on 5th September, 2020 in online mode. Due to the Corona pandemic this year it was not possible to celebrate Teachers' Day in the campus. However, MAKAUT is honoured to pay homage to the teachers who are playing such an integral part in shaping the lives of the students, even during the Corona crisis.

    Teachers' Day is a special day for the appreciation of teachers, and include celebrations to honor them for their special contributions in the lives of students. In India the birthday of the Second President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan is celebrated as Teacher's Day since 1962.

    At the outset of the programme organized by MAKAUT, WB, Rabindrasangeet 'Prana Bhariye Trisha Hariye' was beautifully sung by a student of  Information Technology (IT) Second Year, Ayantika Dhar. The coordinator of the programme was Mrs. Mohua Das Poddar.

    The Hon'ble Registrar of MAKAUT Dr. Partha Pratim Lahiri showed respect to all teachers and said, "Teachers build the backbone of students and every teacher is like the captain of a ship."

    Another student, Swarnali Mandal of Information Technology (IT) Second Year recited a poem written by Sri Bhabani Prasad Majumdar, titled  'Swapna gechhe churi'. It was very much fitting the present pandemic situation.

    Prof. (Dr.) Bibhuti Bhusan Paira, a teacher since 1963 in his speech pointed out that the teachers have to inspire and motivate young minds, so that they can innovate and think about changes. Actually the teachers must be ready for the new digital pedagogy. They must maintain a daily diary to take stock of their contribution to students each day.

    Prof. (Dr.) Shibamay Dasgupta, Director of the School of Engineering Sciences, MAKAUT said, "It is our future generation, who can rebuild the glory of our country and we teachers want to help them in all respects."

    Srijita Karmakar, a 4th Year IT student recited the famous poem by Sunirmal Basu, 'Sobar ami Chhatra'. It was followed by a very illuminating speech by Prof. (Dr.) Indranil Mukherjee, Director of the School of Management Sciences. He said, "Most often we like to treat teachers and students, as if they are in separate brackets. We have to break the barrier as we are all co-learners." He also pointed out that COVID-19 has led to digitalisation of education to a great extent, as the lectures of many world famous professors are now available in online platforms for all students. In the new academic session, MAKAUT will reach before the students with its academic resources. The Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. (Dr.) Saikat Maitra is committed to comply with this objective. Prof. Mukherjee's speech was followed by another beautiful Rabindradangeet 'Katobar bhebechhinu Apane Bhulia' be Ayantika Dhar.

    The Head of the Department of the Department of Biotechnology Prof. (Dr.) Jaya Bandyopadhyay showed respect to Dr. Radhakrishnan and all teachers. She pointed out that teachers have much more to deliver and contribute to the society. The students performed very well in their cultural programme. Tapasmita Kundu recited a poem 'Tumio Bolbe' by Kartik Ghosh. 

    Prof. (Dr.) Debashis De, Director of the School of Computational Science was hopeful that MAKAUT Family will stay connected during this pandemic and next year will be able to celebrate Teachers' Day as before. In the meantime teachers and students all are parts of an extended family and will remain connected for 365 days.
