Celebrating the 74th Independence Day with my colleagues and friends in times of COVID-19 pandemic. This year we are not reliving the glory of the past but creating a new chapter for the future generations. Despite the COVID pandemic, our faith in the Indian value system has been witnessed through collaboration, compassion, courage and contribution to the society. Starting from the alumni who have been supporting the Yajna through giving back for the underprivileged community, to the researchers who have been working incessantly to develop technologies related to COVID and others, the campus community who have been managing life with vigor despite the social restrictions, our students who are collecting a new experience for their long journey ahead, every individual and groups associated with the Institute have been COVID warriors in their own ways. We have been awarded the 'Institute of Eminence' for such collective contribution and I do not see a reason why we cannot find our position among the top global universities. We need to look within our own country, solve our challenges and expand their scope in the global context. I thank our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi who reminded us this morning of the mantra of Swavalamban which was given by Mahatma Gandhi many decades ago. But over the years, we have lost the connection with our value system, ethics. I am glad the New Education Policy 2020 is aimed to reinvent these through the academic system from school to high education levels. With such a dynamic and diverse education, I am sure we will be able to bring out the best in our youth.
