IIT Kharagpur has joined hands with Pepperdine University of USA to boost the initiatives of institution-led incubation and entrepreneurship at IIT Kharagpur. Pepperdine, which is globally known for its VC-backed entrepreneurial ventures, will collaborate for technological knowledge exchange with IIT Kharagpur.
Referring to the latest PitchBook Report on top Universities producing VC-backed entrepreneurs, Dr. P K Dan, workshop faculty and coordinator of the programme, mentioned that “Pepperdine MBA ranks as 25th where Universities like Harvard, MIT, Stanford, INSEAD or Carnegie Mellon are also listed andnaturally such collaborative initiatives will benefit our students”.
Prof. Larry Cox, faculty at Pepperdine who visited the Institute recently, conducted a workshop on Entrepreneurship Promotion along with his associates at Entrepreneur Institute Inc. where he is the Chief Education Officer. They imparted training on increasing creative capacity and the creative problem solving process.The workshop was jointly held with the Rajendra Mishra School of Engineering Entrepreneurship (RMSoEE) at IIT Kharagpur and upcoming Research Park of IIT Kharagpur at Kolkata. It focused on product engineering, reverse-forward engineering and rapid prototyping.
The US based team is also mulling on an association with the upcoming Research Park of IIT Kharagpur at Kolkata to take innovation and entrepreneurship endeavour forward.
According to Prof. Partha Pratim Das, who also leads the Research Park project, said “These workshops are the precursor to the future activities of the research park”.
Several budding entrepreneurs from IITKharagpur start-ups namely, Alive Home, mbreath, Beatrix and Culinosh and product development groups on the campus, namely, Prodex (Product Design), KRSSG (KharagpurRobosoccer Student’s Group), TeamKART, and Entrepreneurship Cell, participated in the workshop.
In the words of Prof. Larry Cox “Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business and Management is very pleased to be collaborating with RMSoEE, IITKharagpur to strengthen both of our educational offerings with regard to technology entrepreneurship. We believe that the Graziadio School's unique approach to entrepreneurship as creative problem solving‘ in combination with the RMSoEE's world class technical expertise will produce powerful and disruptive student-based businesses at both institutions. As a first step, the Graziadio School is planning to host 10 RMSoEE students at its Malibu Campus for a week of entrepreneurship training in the summer of 2018, followed by 7-week internship”.
Prof. Partha Pratim Chakrabarti, Director, IIT Kharagpur met the US based team along with members of engineering entrepreneurship school and advised the group to prepare a roadmap for continued collaborative activities.
