Mandatory Additional Requirement (MAR) is an integral part of the under-graduate (UG) course curriculum of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), WB.  As the University is aimed at all round development of the students, MAR has been introduced to encourage them to be involved in: Social Developmental Activities, Environmental Protection (like tree plantation), get enrolled in Online courses and undertake Entrepreneurial Activities. Accordingly the students will choose activities of their choice/interest and earn Activity Points for MAR. A minimum of 25 MAR activity points must be achieved in each academic year by every student. Certificates will be issued by MAKAUT to each student, at the end of the curriculum to acknowledge all such activities. Activities are being added each year and accordingly updated record sheets are uploaded.

The Revised Tables for MAR Activities with respect to different courses are:

Frequently Asked Questions  (FAQs) with Answers:

Q.1. We need to know that whether a student needs to be awarded with a minimum of 25 MAR activity points in one academic year? What would be the status of the students who in the first year first semester have already got greater than 30?
Ans: As regards your query, the provision for a minimum of 25 activity points are there as the University wants continuity in activities over the semesters. But in the case of those who have exceeded the limit, points will be added cumulatively. Again, MAR activity points are calculated annually. Those who have already exceeded 25 in one semester, may or may not do any activity in the next semester. But extra activities will always be mentioned in the final certificate issued by the University.
    Q. 3. I am a student of BCA fourth semester and I want to know if I join some additional courses after the semester exam in some outside Institute, will that add to my credit points?  If yes, then under which criteria?
Ans: These courses will fetch similar activity points as Tech Fest, provided they issue certificates.
     Q. 4. What does the "student chapter" and "self entrepreneurship program" in the record form actually mean?

Ans: Some colleges are members of different professional institutes, which organize seminars and workshops and the students participate in those. That is known as “student chapter”. If your college is a member of any such institute, then you can participate.
“Self-Entrepreneurship Programme” means if you are interested in any start-up initiative of your own, that is, you want to start a business of your own, then you can get points. Also you can create videos, organize and take part in workshops regarding starting a business etc. and achieve activity points.
    Q. 5. If one student participates in an industrial visit in 1st semester, can he/she participate in the same industrial visit in the 2nd semester? Maximum 20 points and minimum 10 points is allocated for industrial visit. Can we get any point between 10 to 20 for only one industrial visit?
Ans: It must be noted that same industry visit in different semesters will not fetch points. Different industry visits will surely be eligible for getting points. The points will not be between 10 and 20, but 10 for one and 20 for two visits.
Q.6. Can a student enrolled in MOOCs for achieving B.Tech/BBA Honours Degree get points for MAR from the same courses?

Ans: No. The courses must be different. However, any course, technical/non-technical is eligible for earning points for MAR. the course basket is not fixed like Honours.
