Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), WB is the first Institution in Eastern India ( and also in West Bengal) to start a full fledged Bachelor and Masters' Degree Courses in Forensic Science. The Department organized the First Forensic Science Conference at its Haringhata Campus on 18th and 19th February, 2020 and was attended by renowned personalities, including Government Officials. 

The Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of MAKAUT, WB Prof. (Dr.) Saikat Maitra and the Head of the Department Forensic Science, Prof. )(Dr.) Sujoy Mitra took an active role in making the conference a success. Dr Vindresh Mishra, Senior Scientific Officer at Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Kolkata and Mr. Arup Kumar Pal of National Crime Records Bureau were present on the first day of the Conference.

Sri Dipankar Bhattacharyya, IPS and DIG, Training-cum-Principal, Swami Vivekananda State Police Academy (SVSPA), Barrackpore and Sri Baijayanta Mukherjee, Deputy Director Chemistry & Explosives at Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Kolkata were present in the second day.

All of them prised MAKAUT for its initiative to teach Forensic Science in the University. They said that there is a shortage of professionals in this area and so there will be a huge demand for the students passing out from this University in the job market. The renowned personalities present on the occasion assured that they will lend their helping hands to MAKAUT, as and when required, in running the courses on Forensic Science.
