    The Sustainability Management Conclave, Parivartan’19

    Xavier School of Sustainability (XSoS), Xavier University, Bhubaneswar (XUB) conducted its annual business conclave at the Xavier City campus, on August 24, 2019. The theme for the session was, “Industry 4.0: An enabler for Corporate Sustainability?”. 
    The conclave was graced by the presence of industry veterans and faculty members alike and was inaugurated byFr. E.A Augustine (Registrar, XUB). He emphasized on the need to look at the corporate world from the perspective of sustainability. He added that sustainability is not only about smart cities and systems but also represents fundamental change and how organizations create value. Prof. SutapaPati (Dean, XSoS) spoke about the shift from linear to circular economy, enrichment of existing ecosystems and the importance of maintaining the ecological balance. Prof. Vikrant Vijay Pati (Professor, XSoS) further added his views on bridging the gap between academia and industries practicing sustainability management.
    The panel was moderated by Prof. Tamoghna Acharya (Professor, XSoS) consisting of Dr.Inderjeet Singh(Director, Deloitte), Mr. ND Rao (Senior Vice President – Projects, JSW), Mr. Hitesh Kataria (Manager Group Sustainability, Mahindra & Mahindra), andMr. RamnathVaidyanathan(General Manager – Sustainability, Godrej Group). They deliberated upon, “Industry 4.0 is a greater promise or a greater peril?”
    Mr. Acharya shared his views on the challenges faced by the industries due to the quantum shift. According to Mr. Singh, loyalty is the most important value when it comes to consulting business. Then he spoke on changing our mindsets and shifted our thoughts towardswaste reduction and environment conservation. Mr. Rao spoke on the maximization of output while minimizing the inputs and sensitized upon the level of usage that will bring the change. Mr. Kataria asked the students to nurture their curiosity while explaining Mahindra’s sustainability framework and their ideology of, “Giving back, more than we take”. Mr. Vaidyanathan elaborated on the various components of industry 4.0. He stressed upon usage of technological advancements in the field of agriculture, but indicated that technology is just a catalyst, while behavioral change is mandatory.
    Thereafter, the honourable panellists were felicitated with a token of gratitude. Finally, the conclave ended with a vote of thanks by Ms.Joshika Singh(Coordinator,ConXerv) to the speakers, faculty members, and everyone who contributed to make it a grand success.
    The students of XSOS, contributed to the august house by asking pertinent questions, adding value to the discourse.The panels, while appreciating the topics of discussion, stressed on the pertinence of the themes and the importance of such professional conclaves in keeping the conversation alive.
