The CURTAIN RAISER VOLUME of the GLOBAL ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF RAMAYANA (GER) has been released by Ayodhya Shodh Sansthan (Ayodhya Research Institute), Lucknow and this has been in academic and research collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, spearheaded by Dr. Joy Sen, Professor of the Department of Architecture and Regional Planning, and also Chairperson of the upcoming Centre of Excellence for Indian Knowledge Systems (CoE-IKS). Soon, over 200 Volumes of GER project with state-of-the-art production and editing processes shall be activated, both in print-version and digital platform, to reach Institutes, organizations and scholars around the world.
The Global Encyclopaedia Ramayana (GER) project is commensurate with India’s current National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Ministry of Education, Government of India, to best re-position the longstanding history of Indian heritage systems in the national and international perspective. Key focuses are:
Twin recovery of the tradition of Saptarshis in the Vedic Age (Srutis or oral tradition of eternal truth) and the Ramayana (Smritis or historical documents of personalities)
The exploration of Geographical and settlement spread of Ramayana across the Indian sub-continent and the world based on the latest technological analyses and exploration
Evidence of domain areas of Indian knowledge systems (IKS) as evident in the Ramayana (lineage of the science of language/ mathematics and positional astronomy/ ethics/ ecology/ landscape and geography/ settlement systems/ others)
IIT KHARAGPUR has overall coordinated the design of the first edition of the 200 volume GLOBAL ENCYCLOPAEDIA RAMAYANA project (GER) as advanced by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Government of India. Forerunning the 200 volume initiative is the specific and First Research volume by the Department of Architecture & Regional Planning - IIT Kharagpur, which is called ‘Saptarishi and the Ayana of Rama’ (The Seven sages and the Ramayana), which is a major consultancy project of SRIC IIT Kharagpur. Prof. Joy Sen is the Principal Consultant of the project.
